»Transnational Aesthetics of Democracy«

Projektbeschreibung

This project looks into the intersections of democracy and transnational experiences of aesthetic orders, aesthetic actions, and aesthetic objects. Going beyond exclusive Europhonic models and theorization of liberal democracy and aesthetic regimes, this project widens the canvas to understand the cross-cultural and transnational understanding of suturing the aesthetic and the democratic, inquiring how our aesthetic principles and practices deepen the democratic agenda of pluriversal co-existence. It also investigates how this mingling of the aesthetic and the democratic across different cultural and territorial contexts have helped in the transformation of canonical ideas and established notions about social relations and political power.

Wissenschaftliches Profil

Anindya Sekhar Purakayastha ist Professor am Department of English an der Kazi Nazrul University und seit 2022 auch Professor am Institute of Language Studies and Research (ILSR) in Kolkata. Zuvor hat er an der Sidho Kanho Birsha University (Westbengalen) und der Central University of Odisha gelehrt. Gegenwärtig arbeitet er über die Kritische Theorie, literarische und kulturelle Repräsentationen und postkoloniale Interventionen aus dem Globalen Süden. Er befasst sich mit aktuellen Konzepten der Dekolonialität, Public Humanities und mit literarischen und kulturellen Artikulationen interreligiöser Beziehungen.

Trust in Conflict – Political Life under Conditions of Uncertainty« gefördert; 2026 vom Graduiertenkolleg »Ästhetik der Dmokratie«.
